Keeping Mentally Healthy: Music

Keeping Mentally Healthy: Music

“Music is the shorthand of emotion” – Leo Tolstoy. Music is such a powerful medium. Regrettably, I overlooked music for most of my youth and didn’t really start exploring it until my early 20s.

“Music is the shorthand of emotion” – Leo Tolstoy. Music is such a powerful medium. Regrettably, I overlooked music for most of my youth and didn’t really start exploring it until my early 20s. Now, I couldn’t imagine living without it. During my first psychiatric-related hospital admissions, I started learning to sing, play guitar and write music (not necessarily well but that is besides the point). For me, it was a way I could express my emotion and get down my thoughts on paper. Music can help elevate mood when you are feeling down, reduce stress if you’re feeling anxious and has been shown to relieve some of the symptoms of depression. So, with the 2021 "Spotify Wrapped" just released, I want to ask anyone reading this, what is your favourite song of all time?
