Keeping Mentally Healthy: Screen Time and Social Media

Keeping Mentally Healthy: Screen Time and Social Media

Today's topic is one that has become more and more relevant and discussed in recent years, particularly with lockdowns and the like over the past couple of years.

Online behaviour, particularly in younger generations (but not exclusively) is worrying and the cause of some serious mental health issues. It is actually not uncommon to even see "cell phone addiction" in younger people.

Everything in social media is designed to draw us in and keep us looking at our phones. And unfortunately it allows for issues like online bullying and general negativity/toxicity. It is so easy to get sucked in for hours and we all need to be aware of the damage it has the potential to do.

Of course, I am not saying it is all negative and it certainly has its place. Clearly, without social media, none of you would be reading this right now! However, I think that many of us could do with trying to reduce our screen time a little bit and personally, I do my best to fill my feeds with positive, helpful, practical, effective content rather than negative toxic, argumentative, upsetting content.
