Keeping Mentally Healthy: Self Care

Keeping Mentally Healthy: Self Care

Today I spent most of the morning participating it a fun run, hanging out with a friend and then having a bath. I've been bogged down lately with work, upskilling, study and business related activities and it was good to have a relaxed morning.
This notion of self care is so important, if you are struggling with mental illness or if you are the supporter of someone with a mental illness. It is really easy to burn out, so it's important to take some time out for yourself.

The biggest barrier people have to self care is time. It is very rare that I would have as much time as I had this morning for self-care but it is still something I try to practice when I am busy. There is a misconception that self needs to take a long time but it doesn't! Self care just mindfully doing something for yourself. It could be as simple as taking a few deep breaths and washing your face, but doing it mindfully and really enjoying that 30 seconds.

So, if you have been feeling under the pump lately, try to take some time for yourself today. Whether it's 30 seconds or 30 minutes, go out of your way to find something to do that has been lacking in your life.
